Student Services Support

Compensation: $37,923.80 - $45,982.60

Position Summary:

Veterans Services Student Support Advisors provide complete organizational support and services to any military or military affiliated student. Veterans Services Student Support Advisors are experts in the field of GI Bill usage and specialize in GI Bill strategic planning. Additionally, Veterans Services Student Support Advisors take a 360-degree approach to student advisement and support. Veterans' advisors assist veteran and military affiliated students from their initial inquiries about what SPC offers through application to SPC, application for GI Bill benefits, students orientation to SPC, VA's GI Bill, and the local veteran community. Veterans Services Student Support Advisors are expected to assist students in introducing the student to higher education generally, guiding career decisions and class selection for GI Bill legal compliance and furthering of the academic career. Veterans Services Student Support Advisors take a holistic approach to military affiliated students by assuring the student is in touch with any academic and student services needs of the military-affiliated student at SPC, which includes but is not limited to: Financial Aid, Accessibility Services, scholarships, waivers, tutoring, transfer planning. Veterans Services Student Support Advisors are held responsible for creating and promoting meaningful student life in their offices for military related students to find a suitable social network within.

Veterans Services Student Support Advisors serve each as Campus POC for any veteran or military-affiliated issue which may arise.

Veterans Services Student Support Advisors are expected to hire and train student workers through the VA's Work Study program, to assist in their respective offices.

Education:

Associate's degree minimum

Experience:

Two (2) years related experience.

* An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job may be acceptable in lieu of those requirements listed above.

Knowledge:

  • Applicable Federal, State, and local laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures;
  • Understanding of SPC programs which are approved for GI Bill funding, MyCAA funding, Active Duty TA funding (all branches of military separately), Reserve/National Guard TA funding
  • Understanding of all SPC certificate, associate and bachelor degree programs
  • Knowledge of college and community resources including disability support services, student support, learning support, and student assistance programs
  • Fluent in VA Once program, Tungsten PO Program, Fluent with Microsoft Office suite of applications as well as the PeopleSoft student administration system, Perceptive Content system, Ask VA system, Wait Well system, VA.gov application system, WEAMS system
  • Customer service principles
  • Career planning principles and practices;
  • Community networking principles and practices;
  • Recordkeeping principles;
  • Computers and related software applications.

Physical:

  • Positions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, walking, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
  • Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Potential Frequency

1.

Coordinates assigned program and/or service, which may include maintaining a caseload of students and counseling students on a variety of student services; determining student eligibility for services; locating social services or academic resources for students as requested; and performing related duties.

Counsels and advises incoming and returning students on student support programs, retention services, financial aid, local community resources, and/or other related programs.

Prepares, reviews, and submits a variety of operational and student records, reports, forms, regulatory information, and related documents.
