The Opportunity:

Take your career to new heights! Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is seeking a Grounds Crew Leader for the Daytona Beach campus. This position is responsible for providing basic supervision to Grounds Service Personnel on a daily basis. They will perform maintenance and repairs on the landscaped grounds, parking lots, roads, fencing, and drainage systems as assigned by the Foreman.

They will Install new and renovate old landscaping including but not limited to turf, trees, shrubs, and flowerbeds and maintain, renovate, and repair all exterior athletic and recreational facilities. They will Remove all trash on grounds including emptying waste receptacles and provide emergency response, as appropriate, to exterior hazardous conditions.They will also assist in various special events, set-ups, and building service functions as needed.

Qualifications

Required Education:

  • High school diploma or GED.

Required licenses, certificates, and/or security clearances:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license. (In some instances, a valid Class C (CDL) license may be required.) See approved driver's details below on insurance requirements.

Required skills, knowledge, abilities:

  • Must have at least two (2) years prior experience in supervision.
  • Must be able to communicate both verbally and in writing, with the ability to comprehend basic instructions and to respond effectively.
  • Must be able to operate a standard shift vehicle
  • Ability to operate all power equipment as related to grounds maintenance.
  • Basic knowledge in all areas of grounds maintenance, horticulture, cement work, etc.
  • Ability to climb ladders or scaffolding and work in overhead areas.
  • Ability to give and to comprehend basic instructions and to respond effectively.
  • Must be able to lift and/or carry miscellaneous grounds equipment or supplies short distances and to push or pull various grounds maintenance equipment. Eye-hand coordination is essential for proper operation of power tools and other work associated with grounds maintenance.
  • Employee must take necessary precautions due to the nature of the equipment he/she is working with and the outside elements subjected to, to protect themselves and those around them of the hazards associate with this type of work.


Requirements to be able to drive a university vehicle:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license. In some instances, a valid Class C (CDL) license may be required.
  • Must meet the University's standards for approved drivers. Unacceptable driving records (as stated in the Use of Equipment and Vehicles Procedure 1.17) include the following (for three years from the date of each occurrence):
    • More than 3 moving violations and/or accidents in 3 years
    • More than 2 moving violations and/or accidents in any 1 year
    • A major conviction in the last 3 years, including (but not limited to) driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an accident, reckless driving, and/or homicide or assault by motor vehicle.
