Role and Responsibilities

As an Academic Instructor with us, you will be teaching in a classroom environment to provide diverse students with adult basic education, English language development, special education, and basic subjects including reading, mathematics, and language arts. This role will require you to:

  • Teach career planning, social adjustment, and general life skills courses.
  • Instruct conversational English, as well as local ideas and customs to students with limited English proficiency.
  • Maintain records including testing, daily inmate/detainee work, and attendance.
  • Evaluate and ensure inmate/detainee academic progress.
  • Provide individual tutoring.

Minimum Requirements

* Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required.

* Possess or be eligible to apply for a State of Florida Educator's certificate. (Non-Certified applicants must obtain a State or Florida Educator's Certificate within 12 months of hire.)

* Two (2) years of relevant teaching experience preferred.

  1. * NOTE for Veterans/spouses ONLY: If applicant is a Veteran or a Veteran's spouse (in Florida), they can apply and receive a Temporary License if they meet the following:

* Minimum of 48 months of military service with an honorable/medical discharge;

* Minimum of 60 college credits with a 2.5 grade point average;

* Passing score on a Florida subject area examination

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently: lift or carry up to 10 lbs.; bend, stoop, reach above shoulder level, walk, or stand.
  • Occasionally: lift or carry up to 20 lbs.; push or pull up to 40 lbs.; sit.
