PARAMEDIC:

The Paramedic is responsible for responding to requests by the nursing staff or physician staff to assist with BLS interventions and to assist with emergency care within the emergency department according to protocols and polices approved by the hospital and emergency department medical director, and hospital policy. This position performs other duties related to the provision of care as assigned after appropriate training.

LPN:

The Licensed Practical Nurse performs selected nursing acts in the care of the ill, injured, or infirm patient under the direction of a Registered Nurse. Under the direction of the Registered Nurse, provides nursing care in accordance with departmental and Hospital policies and procedures.

The person in this position works under general supervision, is responsible for various shifts, may be subject to over 40 hours per week and/or callback as required, and may also be required to remain on campus immediately before, during, and after severe weather and/or disasters.

Responsibilities

Responds to requests for paramedic level services from areas within the emergency department in a timely and safe manner. Completes documentation and records according to hospital and department policy. Ensures emergency preparedness equipment is ready for response at all times. Assists with codes and critical care patients within the emergency department at the paramedic level, including interdepartmental transport and monitoring. The paramedic performs assigned duties in the emergency department under the supervision of nursing with documentation of proper training and skills evaluation. Assists charge nurse and/or triage nurse in assessing, prioritizing, and maintaining patient flow and assists in reassessing patient waiting to be seen. Responsible to C-Med communication. Responsibilities may include assisting EMS providers with medications and supply restocking in accordance with hospital agreements with individual providers. Participates in community activities, which improve the public's understanding of the EMS system Pursues new levels in paramedicine technology and participates in activities which contribute to professional growth and development.Assist in other duties as assigned to support the operational needs of the department and organization. May be required to remain on campus immediately before, during, and after severe weather and/or disasters.

Qualifications

Paramedic Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent Required
  • Paramedic Licensed State of Florida Upon Hire Required
  • BLS for Healthcare Providers (BLS) American Heart Association Upon Hire Required
  • ACLS Provider (ACLS) American Heart Association within 90 Days Required
  • Non-violent crisis intervention (CPI) within 1 Year Required

LPN Requirements:

  • Graduate of Practical Nursing program or Completion of a Vocational Certification from an accredited program in Practical Nursing
  • Current license in the State of Florida as a Licensed Practical Nurse
  • BLS through American Heart Association
  • NIH within 90 days of employment/transfer
  • ACLS within one (1) year of employment/transfer to position
  • CPI within one (1) year of employment/transfer
  • IV therapy certification
