As a Manufacturing Engineer - Automation, Ormond Beach, Florida, will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing automated solutions to enhance our operational efficiency. The automation engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams, analyze existing processes, and identify areas for lean automation. This role requires strong technical skills, waste elimination, hands-on problem-solving abilities, and excellent communication to effectively implement automation initiatives.

Your responsibilities

  • Work with cross-functional teams to identify lean automation opportunities and develop project plans.
  • Design, develop, and deploy automation solutions using lean quick change methods, industry-standard tools and technologies.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and define automation objectives.
  • Analyze existing processes and systems to identify areas for waste elimination, throughput improvement and automation.
  • Develop and execute test plans to ensure the accuracy and reliability of automation solutions.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with automated systems, software, and equipment.
  • Document automation processes, including system architecture, workflows, safety procedures, and user manuals.
  • Train end-users on the operation and maintenance of automated systems.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends and emerging technologies in lean methods and automation engineering.
Your background

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in engineering, computer science, or a related field with 2 plus years of experience as an automation engineer in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proven experience as an automation engineer or similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of automation tools and technologies, such as robotic process automation (RPA), industrial control systems (ICS), or programmable logic controllers (PLCs)
  • Demonstrate experience in application of lean automation (SMED, 5S, waste elimination, etc...)
  • Experience with process analysis, system integration, and workflow optimization.
  • Familiarity with database systems and data manipulation.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively in a team environment.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality solutions.
  • Professional certifications in automation engineering or related areas preferred
  • Robotics experience a plus
  • Limited local travel may be included
  • Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US.
