Job Description

Job Summary

FGCU's Department of Political Science and Public Administration is seeking candidates for an Assistant Professor of Public Administration. The successful candidate will teach primarily in an online MPA program, along with select courses in an undergraduate Political Science program be involved in course and/or curriculum development conduct research/scholarship participate on College and University committees and/or initiatives and perform other duties as assigned.

Job Description

Typical duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Develop and teach assigned courses with a 3/3 teaching load.
  • Prepare syllabi and instructional materials, coordinate lectures, develop and deliver distance learning-based courses, evaluate students, and maintain the highest possible standards of instruction.
  • Keeps abreast of new information and developments in Public Administration.
  • Develop and maintain an independent and productive research/scholarship program.
  • Actively serve on university committees and participate in institutional meetings.
  • Maintain professional skills through regular professional development, and other activities appropriate to higher education faculty.
  • Collaborate with other faculty to develop/revise curriculum.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor

Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Public Administration, Public Affairs, or a closely-related area from a regionally accredited institution or equivalent accreditation.
  • ABDwill be considered if degree is conferred by August 7, 2024. If successful candidate isABD, appointment will be made at a Lecturer level on a fixed contract.
  • Demonstrated potential for teaching Public Administration courses, evidenced either by having served as instructor of record or by having served as a teaching assistant.
  • Demonstrated potential for scholarly research.
  • Experience using distance-learning technology.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior teaching experience in Public Administration as instructor of record.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge and commitment to the use of instructional technology, a willingness to cultivate an interdisciplinary perspective; and a demonstrated commitment to professional development.
  • Knowledge or commitment to the use of technology in distance learning & university teaching. Interest in collaborating both within and outside the University in the development and delivery of instruction resulting in improved student learning. Must value continued scholarship and service to the school and university.
  • Ability to interact in a professional manner with a diverse group of staff, faculty, students and the community in a service-oriented environment.
