Overview

Supports all educational activities conducted by Specialty Laboratories Department for Licensed Laboratory Professionals, including lecturing for the Blood Banking Technology (BBT) and Specialist in Blood Banking (SBB) Programs and other non-OneBlood education programs.

Responsibilities

    Assists with the development, monitoring, delivery and coordination of the instruction provided to the students in the medical technology laboratory training programs in line with business needs including the following programs:
    • Blood Banking Technology Program (BBT)
    • Specialist in Blood Banking Program (SBB)
    • Medical Technology and Medical Laboratory Technician programs
    • Other licensed healthcare professionals as needed and appropriate
  • Ensures compliance with 64B3-3.003 of the Florida Administrative Code, Curriculum Requirements for Clinical Laboratory Personnel Training Programs
  • Supports the state of Florida continuing education tracking program CE Broker and programs provided for licensed Medical Technologists
  • Partners with internal stakeholders including laboratory operational leaders, HR Business Partners, Learning & Development and other departments as appropriate
  • Assists with coordination of admissions procedures and student recruitment, selection and orientation
  • Responsible for communication and coordination of scheduling clinical practicums required for the above educational programs provided onsite and in distant locations
  • Assists with delivery of BBT program didactic and wet-lab training, distribution of wet lab training samples to mentors at remote sites, and evaluation, tutoring, and counseling of students
  • Assists with Blackboard and virtual student communications
  • Assists with SBB program OneBlood homeroom course building and release in Blackboard of didactic materials developed and approved by the Web based Users Group (WBUG)
  • Supports client access to OneBlood provided Media Lab for Medical Technologists
  • Supports the application of software used in the Medical Technology Education Programs
Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, or/and Chemical, Biological Science and three (3) years of experience in Clinical Laboratory Science or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training, and/or experience. Prior experience in a training and delivery role and/or experience as a student mentor/trainer strongly preferred. .

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND DESIGNATIONS:

National certification from any Board listed in subsection 64B3-5.002(3), of the Florida Administrative Code and a national certification in medical technology. Specialist in Blood Banking (SBB) preferred or eligible. Valid and current Florida Clinical Laboratory Technologist License in Immunohematology and Blood Banking. Florida licensure for Immunohematology, Serology, Chemistry, Microbiology and Hematology may substitute for Blood Banking.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of and ability to implement academic/scientific/technical training, and training including classroom instruction and core curricula development and/or revisions
  • Ability to perform and successfully train others in both theory and hands on laboratory techniques
  • Ability to multitask and oversee multiple deadlines
  • Ability to organize work for timely completion
  • Ability to follow complex oral and written instructions
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing at a post-graduate level
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to use Microsoft computer software programs efficiently, with minimal additional training, including video conferencing and webinar technology
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time
  • Ability to commute with personal transportation.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (up to 20 pounds).

Functions are regularly performed inside with potential for exposure to adverse conditions, such as inclement weather, atmospheric elements and pathogenic substances. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
