ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Preparing, instructing, and grading all coursework in the assigned classes;
  • Assigning final grades;
  • Recording attendance.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Master's degree with a minimum of 18 graduate credits in criminal justice or criminal law from a regionally accredited college;
  • Teaching experience in a college or other post-secondary institution setting is preferred;
  • Experience working with the criminal justice system;
  • Ability to deliver high quality instruction in a range of criminal justice, legal, ethics, penology, and/or criminal behavior courses;
  • Ability to facilitate in-class skill-building exercises based on simulated scenarios;
  • Ability to incorporate technology in the facilitation and delivery of course materials;
  • Proven ability to work with others;
  • Ability to recognize and respond to students from culturally diverse backgrounds;

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Preparing course materials, class lectures, and in-class skill-building activities. Evaluating student progress through examination and assignments. Evaluating student practical skills. Actively supporting student success through academic advising. Participating in any required department, division, or adjunct faculty meetings. Maintaining an active program of professional development related to individual, professional, and institutional needs. Performing other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires an ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time and to present oral lectures/demonstrations, walk, bend, lift, reach up, stoop, and carry items occasionally in excess of twenty-five (25) pounds. Some lifting of computer and electronic equipment may be required. It also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines, such as, copier, fax, calculator, telephone, and other equipment as necessary. IRSC expects its employees to follow proper safety standards while employed by the College.
