Job Description
Duration:  6+ Months
Shift Timings:  7 am-4 pm (1 hour lunch) 32 or 40 hours per week. (Ask candidate's preference)

Job Description:
  • Must have the physical, developmental, and mental ability to perform job tasks, work efforts, responsibilities and duties of the job illustrated. The job description herein provides for the range of duties to be performed for this position. It is not intended to reflect all duties that are required within this position.
MAJOR FUNCTION:
  • Prepares, organizes, and implements summer programs to children.
  • Ability to manage and supervise large groups of children.
  • Provides instructional leadership and learning activities on topics related to environmental education and natural resources.
  • Training and general instructions from supervisor regarding the program to be administered.
  • Will work seasonally in the summer.
ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES:
  • Prepares, organizes, and implements summer programs to summer camp and/or summer recreation programs to children.
  • Responsible for the safety and supervision of participants.
  • Responsible for leading daily activities as designated, supervising children, and daily preparation of site (set-up/clean up).
  • Responsible for reporting illness and/or injury of participants immediately to staff. Administers first aid as necessary.
  • Responsible for carrying out rules and procedures according to set division policies.
  • Responsible for inventory and proper use of equipment and supplies.
  • Completes and distributes necessary paperwork or forms (i.e., attendance records).
  • Performs related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:
  • Ability to organize and implement environmental education programs and provide assistance for summer program activities at Circle B Bar Reserve that focus on Polk County Natural resources and reflect the goals of Polk Nature Discovery Center.
  • Ability to adhere to program standards and objectives.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with the public, other employees, and officials.
  • Ability to apply appropriate behavior management techniques that adhere to Polk Nature Discovery Center guidelines.
  • Ability to perform various job tasks in all weather conditions and under various physical exertion and energy requirements.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 25 pounds on a regular basis and occasionally up to 45 pounds.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Graduate of an accredited high school or possess an acceptance equivalency diploma.
  • Must be 18 years of age by hire date.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to secure a valid driver's license at the time of employment.
  • A comparable amount of related training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
  • Must pass background level 1check and background level 2 check.
SPECIAL PREFERENCES:
  • Prefer persons with teacher, camp counselor, recreational program, or related work experience. Prefer some knowledge of natural resources in Polk County
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
  • Applicant must complete an Affidavit of Good Moral Character at the time of interview.
