Description

Makes avionics repairs and adjustments to aircraft on the flight line and in the field.

Perform avionics parts replacement to assist in troubleshooting of systems to isolate and correct discrepancies.

Requires knowledge of avionics systems and applicable manuals and instructions.

Provides guidance and assistance in resolving / repairing discrepancies discovered by Plane Captains during required inspections.

Participates in flight operations as an In-Flight Maintenance Observer once qualified and as directed by supervisory personnel.

May assist the Functional Check Pilots in preflight and post flight inspections of aircraft. May be required to use hazardous materials in performance of assigned duties.

Knowledge of COMNAVAIRFORINST 4790.2 Series and other applicable Navy Instructions, Manufacturer Manuals and Company Instructions.

Must be able to read, speak, write legibly and understand the English language. Must pass FAA flight physical as required.

Must be qualified and certified as a Plane Captain or become qualified and certified within 120 days after assuming the position.

Must be able to become certified in altimeters, transponder and pitot/static recertification requirements.

Performs high power ground turn operational checks following maintenance or engine rinses in accordance with applicable maintenance instructions.

Perform Daily and Turnaround Inspections in accordance with inspection criteria on aircraft assigned for Maintenance Turns or Functional Check Flights involving electrical systems and components.

Accompany Functional Check Pilots and serve as In-Flight Maintenance Observer during functional check flights, ACI or Depot ferries, and aircraft recovery missions.

May be required to perform component changes, inspection and repairs on downed aircraft here or away from NAS Whiting Field.

Provide guidance to lower level technicians by sharing technical knowledge to enhance accomplishment of assigned tasks.

Use measuring equipment and other test equipment to troubleshoot, adjust or install aircraft avionics/electrical components and accessories.

Monitor progress of work being performed on assigned aircraft.

Coordinate with supervision and Quality Assurance to resolve questions concerning serviceability and/or repair procedures.

Responsible for adhering to the Tool Control Program.

Maintain cleanliness of the work center and assigned work area.

Responsible for adhering to all applicable Foreign Object Damage (FOD) prevention rules and regulations.

Must comply with established General and Industrial Safety Rules and Regulations as applicable to the contract, facilities and job assignment.

Required to perform Collateral Duty Inspector functions.

May be required to remove and reinstall cowlings, doors and panels to perform the duties of the job

classification.

Document work accomplished on government and company electronic and/or manual Information Systems.

Must possess personal tools required to perform the work in the classification.

Pursuant to the specific provisions of the CBA, at the discretion of management, may be requested to perform the duties of Lead.

Monitor and assist the line move crew when operating inside the hangar.

Assist in ensuring the safety, security, inventory and preservation of Government owned and Company owned equipment.

Perform other related duties within the job classification.
