Position Summary

Airbus U.S. is seeking a dynamic, results-oriented Sr. Quality Engineer to help us ensure that the manufacturing, performance, function, and documentation of our products are consistent across multiple programs and customers. This involves working with quality inspectors and the operations team at the assembly line to accomplish high-volume satellite production. The Sr. Quality Engineer will also work with a multifunctional team like supply chain and customers to assure the satellites are delivered with 100% compliance. The main mission is to identify and resolve non-conformities in accordance with the product requirements, driving thorough investigation with the support of engineering and other functions. The Sr. Quality Engineer will also capture, record, and implement Lessons Learned throughout the value stream.


Position Responsibilities

Production Quality Engineering: 60%

  • Work with production and quality inspection Teams to evaluate nonconformances and provide remediation guidance. Ensure nonconformances are systematically documented and followed up.
  • Facilitate and lead root cause investigations and definition of containment as well as corrective and preventive actions.
  • Perform and maintain risk analyses, develop associated PFMEA and control plans.
  • Organize internal process audits to validate production process capability and identify weaknesses to drive positive change.
  • Validate repair instructions and execution when needed.
  • Perform quality gate reviews to ensure finished satellites conform to design configuration and specifications.
  • Interact dynamically with a multifunction group.
  • Be a liaison for customers on production Non-conformances through the MRB process. Demonstrate professionalism in resolving customer concerns.
  • Provide back-up for other Quality Assurance Engineers as needed.
  • Comply with all safety and company policies.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours.
  • Work on reducing KPI for Quality via CI.
  • Work on different CI projects for the Quality Organization in relation to the Operation Excellence team.

Lessons Learned Project Management 30%

  • Capture Lessons Learned in nonconformance resolution from engineering, the supply chain, and operations.
  • Provide a conduit to Lessons Learned databases including internal, Airbus Europe, NASA, GIDEP, and audit Findings to share good practices across AirbusUS.
  • Provide Lessons Learned cases to mitigate risk in Engineering Review Boards, Program Review Boards, Operations changes, and various other opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Document cost avoidance as a project metric.
  • Seek out and implement opportunities to enhance effectiveness of the Continuous Improvement process.

Additional Responsibilities: 10%

Qualified Experience / Skills / Training:

Education:

  • Required: Bachelor's Degree in an engineering discipline (electrical, mechanical, manufacturing, industrial or aerospace) or applicable STEM field is required.
  • Preferred: MBA or master's degree in relevant field or equivalent experience

Experience:

  • Required: At least 5 years in a Quality Manufacturing or equivalent role.
  • Preferred:
    • Exposure to quality management systems AS9100, IATF-16949 or ISO-9001 is a plus.
    • Experience using the Atlassian JIRA/Confluence/SAP tool sets.
    • Experience with SAP (or similar ERP software systems)
    • Experience with Product Lifecycle Management systems
    • Experience working in a Government Contracting environment, familiar with Government Contracting regulations and requirements.
    • Experience managing USG/DOD products and services.
    • Experience working directly with USG/DOD customers.

Knowledge, Skills, Demonstrated Capabilities:

  • Ability to be an active team player in multifunctional Teams. Collaborate in a respectful, transparent, and productive way.
  • Ability to understand a process-based quality management approach. Demonstrated ability to lead and facilitate groups, as well as influence peers. Ability to prioritize within a fast-paced environment and support high-volume production conditions.
  • Understanding of or capability to utilize quality tools such as PFMEA, quality planning/control plans, statistical process control (SPC) techniques, root cause analysis and lean tools.
  • Ability to understand satellite systems and components. Knowledge of functions, signal and power analysis, product integrity requirements, and insertion loss. Knowledge of aerospace conditions and effects to hardware including thermal (radiation and convection), vibration, and acceleration is a plus.
  • Knowledge and/or experience with measurement tools and methods including: micrometers, calipers, durometers, X-Ray analysis, NDT, ohmmeters/multimeters, and oscilloscopes.

Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance required
