Job Description

The Assistant Production Operator is responsible for supporting the production of high-quality limestone products. This role entails shared responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of the granular plant, including the drying and milling systems.

Responsibilities & Expectations:

  • Production:

    • Conduct in-process sample collection, testing, and recording as per the Quality Manual.
    • Monitor processing equipment and communicate any issues to the plant operator.
    • Inspect, load, and weigh bulk customer trucks as instructed.
    • Uphold high housekeeping standards in the loader, bulk loadout area, and dryer/plant systems.
  • Reporting:

    • Perform workplace exams and environmental inspections.
    • Document in-process quality results and report any issues to the operator.
    • Adhere to Safe Quality Food guidelines.
  • Inventorying:

    • Ensure the mini-lab is stocked with product testing equipment.
    • Maintain a supply of miscellaneous hardware for minor repairs in the control room.
  • Safety:

    • Participate in scheduled safety meetings and enforce safety policies.
    • Maintain a clean work environment and promote safety among peers.
    • Engage in the Behavior Based Safety program.
  • Backup:

    • Provide backup for any qualified position as assigned by the supervisor.
    • Be available to be backed up by any qualified team member as directed.
  • Other Duties:

    • Assist with or perform maintenance tasks as needed.
    • Comprehend and operate within Safe Quality Food certification parameters.
    • Undertake additional duties as assigned.

Attributes:

  • Strong problem-solving skills with a logical approach to operational issues.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • In-depth knowledge of process equipment mechanics and material flow.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, overtime, be on-call, or work a full week as required.
  • Ability to multitask with urgency to meet customer demands.
  • Team-oriented with the ability to follow management and peer instructions.
  • Self-motivated with independent working capability.
  • Basic literacy, numeracy, and computer skills, including MS Office and SAP proficiency.
  • Reliable attendance record and a strong commitment to safety.

Physical Demands:

  • Capable of performing assigned work tasks.
  • Ability to access all plant locations, including heights, confined spaces, and tunnels.
  • Mainly outdoor work in a mining environment with exposure to extreme weather, noise, vibrations, oils, and dust.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, balance, stoop, kneel, reach, talk, see, hear, and sit periodically.
  • Consistently lift weights over 50 pounds as necessary.
