Job Summary

The primary objective of the Senior Tax Accountant is to analyze bottler financial data and accurately prepare multi-state operational tax returns in accordance with bottler polices and tax law requirements; tax types include Sales/Use, Property Tax, Unclaimed Property, Business License, Fleet Tax, and Mandatory Deposits. This position performs tax statute research, communicates with taxing authorities and bottler Finance leadership, and provides insight on strategies to minimize audit payments and exposure issues.

The Senior Tax Accountant actively partners with other functional groups within Coca Cola Bottler Sales & Services, as well as with the BPO provider, to provide tax training, guidance, assistance and support. This position delivers excellent customer service through advanced analytical support, timely and accurate reporting of financial statements and tax filings.

Scope of responsibility: includes taxability research, resolution of tax discrepancies with taxing authorities, tax return compliance filings, research of tax software technical issues, audit support, and refund filings across 6 Coca-Cola bottlers, 21 states, and 4k+ jurisdictions. Responsibility also includes month end tax related close supportincluding month end close, tax journal entries, and tax account reconciliations.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Research tax statutes, transaction taxability, and provide insights bottler to Finance leadership regarding tax issues and mitigation strategies.
  • Prepare/Review and Supervise the preparation of multi-state operational tax filings, including:
    • Analyzing financial and operational data used as support for return filings to ensure accurate filings/payments as required by tax laws.
    • Manage daily activities and workflow of the offshore BPO to ensure timely filing.
    • Issue payments to taxing authorities and recording appropriate entries within the financial statements.
  • Assist in overseeing our offshore BPO tax partner; with responsibility to:
    • Train and help develop skills and competencies.
    • Ensure thorough understanding of applicable subject matter, including tax software, tax compliance, and tax related general ledger activities.
  • Direct communication with taxing authorities to resolve inquiries, respond to notices/information requests, or provide tax analysis in support of return filings/payments.
  • Subject matter expert in Tax Software (Vertex, PTMS, TrackerPro, License HQ) including ability to troubleshoot, communicate with vendor and ability to identify discrepancies.
  • Communication with both operational and finance teams within the bottler to obtain necessary information to calculate tax obligations, resolve tax inquiries, and provide tax insight to drive strategic decisions.
  • Provide support for financial and tax compliance audits; including supporting documentation and tax rationale.
  • BPL for CONA and tax-related functionality; includes management of tax tables within CONA to ensure accurate taxability in accordance with tax laws (Sales/use)
  • Prepare/Review and supervise accounting support; including Balance Sheet Reconciliations, Journal Entries, and Month End Close
Key Skills and Abilities
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in Excel, Access, Word, and Internet tax research tools
  • Experience with SAP, preferred.
  • Flexibility to adjust workload and hours when necessary to meet all required deadlines.
  • Well organized. Demonstrated planning, time management and prioritization skills.

Education Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree with a major in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration
  • CPA, CMI and/or Masters of Tax preferred.
Years of Experience

3 to 5 years of finance and/or accounting experience and operational tax experience.

Required Travel

Travel is not expected in this job, however, employees may be asked to travel for meetings or training on occasion

Hybrid Work Environment

CCBSS operates a hybrid working environment. This is a teleworking role that requires working at a CCBSS office location on a regular basis (or a minimum number of days per month or week) at the manager's discretion. The number of days required at a CCBSS office location is at the manager's discretion and is subject to change depending on business needs.
