Here's what you'd do:

  • The Controls Engineer is crucial in ensuring the successful execution of projects by overseeing site surveys, interpreting bid specifications and drawings, preparing project quotations, and designing industrial control panels.
  • Conduct comprehensive surveys of job sites to assess existing equipment, infrastructure, and control systems.
  • Collaborate with clients, project managers, and stakeholders to understand project requirements, constraints, and objectives.
  • Identify potential challenges, risks, and opportunities for improvement based on site conditions, client specifications, and the client's product line.
  • Review bid specifications, drawings, and technical documents provided by clients to understand project scope, deliverables, and requirements.
  • Ensure alignment between bid specifications and proposed project solutions, making necessary clarifications or adjustments.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure project proposals meet end-user expectations and comply with regulatory standards.
  • Prepare accurate and detailed project quotations based on the findings from site surveys, bid specifications, and client requirements.
  • Estimate material costs, labor hours, and other expenses necessary for project execution.
  • Collaborate with procurement and sales teams to ensure quotations align with company pricing strategies and profitability goals.
  • Oversee the in-house development of control system architectures, component layouts, and wiring diagrams to ensure they are consistent with the project's goals and end-user needs and by industry standards and best practices.
  • Select appropriate hardware components based on project requirements and specifications, including PLCs, HMIs, sensors, and electrical devices.
  • Work closely with project managers, engineers, technicians, and vendors to effectively coordinate project activities and timelines.
  • Communicate project status updates, milestones, and potential issues to stakeholders clearly and timely.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to installation teams during panel assembly, wiring, and testing phases.
  • Work with engineers at utility sites.

Job Requirements
Required Skills / Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 3 years project management experience.

Preferred Skills / Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Automation.
  • Proven experience in industrial controls engineering, including site surveying, interpreting bid specifications and drawings, project quotes, and control panel design.
  • PLC programming experience.
  • Experience with SCADA and automation products.
  • Automation engineering experience
  • Need electrical control knowledge.
  • Documentation skills.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, BricsCAD) for creating electrical drawings and ladder-style schematics.
  • Good understanding of electrical principles, circuits, and components commonly used in industrial control systems.
  • Good understanding of industrial automation components, including PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, and industrial sensors.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Problem-solving abilities and the capacity to troubleshoot electrical issues and drawing discrepancies.
  • Customer-oriented mindset committed to delivering high-quality services, exceeding customer expectations, and building long-term client relationships.
  • A responsive and proactive approach to addressing client needs, resolving issues, and providing value-added solutions.
  • Dedication to ensuring customer satisfaction and promoting a positive company image.

  • Needs a passion for industrial automation, the ability to communicate clearly with customers, and a keen eye for detail.

Additional Information:

  • Upon offer of employment, the individual will be subject to a background check and a drug screen.

  • Body Positions: This includes standing, sitting, walking, lifting (up to 60 lbs), talking, and hearing safety alerts.
  • Work will combine indoors in a temperature-controlled environment and job sites outdoors in hot or cold temperatures.
  • The noise level in a typical office environment is low to moderate, though hearing protection and other personal protective equipment will be necessary on some job sites.
  • 30-50% travel.
